When I was a sophomore at the University of Illinois I started a band with some friends called Damascus Road. I had just started writing songs the summer before, so when I arrived at school that fall I was on a mission to find people to make music with. Little did I know I would find lifelong friends in the process. This song was one of the 9 we recorded for our one and only (out of print) album (and the only one I’m not totally embarrassed by!) This was literally the beginning for me. I got infected with this whole music thing by writing, recording, and performing this song (among others). I hope it shows where my starting point was, and hopefully encourages my singer-songwriter friends out there!
