On the first night I arrived in LA to begin writing on the album that would become Gun Shy, my friend Jamie Tworkowski, the founder of To Write Love on Her Arms reached out and invited me to come sing a song at their Heavy and Light event that was happening that night! I was stoked to oblige and after the show met Jon Foreman for probably the 9th time. I told him what I was doing in LA and he invited me down to San Diego to write.  I was beside myself and honestly didn’t REALLY think it was actually going to happen.

It did, and it’s a song called Rosalee, the name of my newborn niece. I had just held her and stared into her dark brown eyes, wondering what she was thinking, who she would become, and wanting to defend and protect her against the sometimes cruel world. Ultimately, it didn’t end up fitting on Gun Shy, but I still love the song and wonder if it will ever officially see the light of day.
